"A Gaggle Of Angels"

Beverley Minster, Beverley, Yorkshire

Beverley Minster, Yorkshire

Beverley Minster is more like a Cathedral than a church and is a fantastic place to visit. One of the reasons is the abundance of carved stone of all ages, Most is glaringly obvious and can be easily seen others take a little searching for, something I always enjoy doing.
When I first saw this collection of ancient Angels hidden away in a corner they reminded me of bats huddled out of site, I needed a flash to illuminate them and even then wasnt sure how they would turn out. Direct flash is usaully very harsh and detail is easily lost, its much better to bounce the flash off a nearby surface which is this case was the orange /yellow stone below. Not only does this preserve the all imprtant shadows, but it casts the colour of the surface onto the subjest which is this case produce this soft orange glow.

The Minster is usually open for visiting but at this time of year Saturdays are a popular time for weddings of which there were two on the weekend I visited.
