"Whot No Church"

St Marys, West Walton, Norfolk

St Mary's, West Walton, Norfolk

Some churches have no towers but at a first glance it appears that West Walton is the opposite. Look again below and you will see that rather than this the church and tower are at separate sides of the grave yard. In fact the campanile is a full sixty feet south of the body of the church. The building dates back to 1250 and is one of the best Gothic buildings in the country.
The tower has recently been restored by The Church Conservation Trust and contains the original thirteenth century bell frame and five bells. Unfortunately because of significant decays in these timbers it is no longer safe for these bells to be rung.
