In many of our Christian churches are some very unchristian carvings which were probably transfered into the churches from much older building, some would say as a way of appeasing the Pagans whose buildings were being replaced. In St Peters are a number of ancient stone carvings, of which the one above is my favorite. I'm not sure what creature it is supposed to represent but at a quick glance it does remind me of a pig with a snout a vicious looking teeth. It doesn't have any piggy ears and from my experience pigs are usually much friendlier looking than this.
St Peters is a magnificent church with grand proportions and it is usually open for visiting.
