One of the things I love about visiting churches is when I chance upon a unique museum quality artefact, the likes of which I've not seen before. Sometimes these take some finding, because they may be hidden away, others are there in the main body of the church and are easily spotted.
In this case the find of the day was an ancient panel which was fixed high on the South wall of the chancel. Its location and the layers of grime meant that it wasnt easy to read, but with the aid of digital photogaphy once home it was possible to zoom in and manipulate the photo to reveal the detail.A sort of digital restoration.
The panel dates from 1632 and comemmorates the eldest daughter of Sir Caustens Brook Knight Banneret. Note the small cherub at the bottom. Amazing that at almost 400 years old it still looks so good.
The church is usually kept locked but a keyholder is listed in the porch whoi lives in the village
